Continuing the theme “The world’s largest economies by 2050” (Egypt)
- Egypt is a great state in North Africa and on the Sinai Peninsula (the Middle East) with a fast-growing population of more than 110.5 million people at the end of 2023. Whereas in 2020 Egypt’s population stood at almost 101 million, by 2022 it had passed 106 million. The population growth rate is above 2%, and fertility stands at 3.53 births per woman (a very high rate by modern standards, if one sets aside Nigeria, where fertility is 4.72 births per woman). At the time of Napoleon’s invasion of Egypt in 1798, the country’s population numbered only 3 million.
