As I noted earlier, Russia and Iran are preparing to sign a Treaty on Comprehensive Strategic Partnership during the Iranian president’s visit to Moscow within one or two months, according to Iran’s foreign ministry.

The treaty will be a key step in developing relations between Russia and Iran and will cover cooperation in areas such as energy, transport, industry, agriculture, science, technology and defence.

At the BRICS summit in Kazan this October, Russian President Vladimir Putin named as priorities in the economic sphere the development of Iranian railway infrastructure within the International North–South Transport Corridor, and the construction of the second and third units of the Bushehr nuclear power plant.
